Shannon here: Valerie Comer interviews her hero from her contemporary romance novella, Sweet Serenade. Comment or answer the question at the end of this post to enter the drawing for an e-book copy. Deadline: August 1st, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Valerie:
Hi, my name is Reed Daniels, and someone asked me to come over to this Inkslinger place and chat with some ladies. Really, the main slinging I do is not with ink. I sling my canoe and my guitar. That kind of sums me up.
I’m really not very good at this talking-to-women thing. I know how to talk to female clients, but ladies I want to impress? Not so much. I apologize in advance if I trip over my words.
- Are you open to your own romance?
Wait. That’s seriously a question? How did I roped get into this interview anyway? Um, well, isn’t any unattached guy looking for the perfect woman? So, if “it depends” isn’t a valid answer, I’d have to say “yes.”
- What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?
Yeah, see? I was worried about continuing this line of conversation. She has to really love the Lord. And, if it’s not too much to ask, I’ve been asking God for a woman who has kept herself pure. I’m kind of even embarrassed to talk about it, you know? It’s getting to be such a rare quality, even in my college and career group at River of Life church.
- Where is the best place you can think of to find a mate?
Church would be perfect, or out on the water. I’m part owner in a tourism company that offers canoeing and kayaking trips, among other things. So this mythical woman needs to love the outdoors and… wouldn’t it be amazing if she loved to paddle? Oh, wait, that’s Quality #3, and you didn’t ask for that.
- What type of character traits are you attracted to?
Hmm. A sense of humor. Someone who can look me in the eye. I guess that means honest and open.
- What type of features are you attracted to?
I’d like a pretty girl, of course. What guy wouldn’t? But a genuine heart for Jesus is way higher on my list than any sort of looks. (Psst, is it wrong to say I like long hair on a woman?)
- What would be a reason to end a potential romance for you?
I hope I’ll move slowly enough and be smart enough not to get in over my head too quickly, but finding out she’s slept around or been two-timing me would end things then and there.
- Where do you dream of getting married?
You know that waterfall on the Sandon River, just above the 28km sign on the forest service road? There’s enough room in a little cave behind it for half a dozen people. Sounds perfect to me!
