The Zing in the Story by Lisa Phillips:

Hi all! I’m so glad to be here. I love to talk romance, and happily ever after’s. I love the zing of two characters on the page, the way we see that first blush of feeling grow into trust and affection. And finally—despite all the obstacles—how that love overcomes.

That’s exactly how I found Wyatt and Nina from my book DEAD END, which is out this month from Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense.

Back in Sudden Recall, Nina’s best friend Sienna gets amnesia and forgets where she put a valuable piece of intel back in her CIA-spy days. She gets help from an old friend, US Marshal Parker (who she doesn’t remember) and the two fall for each other. That book is one of my favorites, and I just knew from the first moment when Wyatt saw Nina that Parker’s teammate Wyatt and Sienna’s best spy friend Nina just had to have their own story!

Little did I know, Nina has spent years trying to catch her mother’s killer—a murder her father was sent to prison for. When the killer begins to taunt her, Nina leans on her faith and her growing love for Wyatt to find strength to see this through to the end. It’s a great story about how togetherness can see you through so much. Of being vulnerable enough to rely on another person for support.

I think that’s the most romantic thing two people can do for each other. Yes, big gestures and small beautiful ones are the things that make our hearts catch. Especially in great books! But a relationship where two people know they’re in this for the long-haul is the strongest romance to me. That day-in, day-out grind of school drop off and pick up, grocery shopping, living on a budget, doing ministry together and trying to find time to be alone in the middle of all the craziness is where it’s tested. That’s where love really flexes its muscles and gains strength to weather the real storms. Where romance has to find a home in the middle of the stress and the business of life is the best story.

About Lisa: LISA PHILLIPS is a British ex-pat who graduated from Calvary Chapel Bible College, where she met her husband. He’s from California, but nobody’s perfect. Lisa loves high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after. Lisa leads worship with her husband at their church. They have two kids and an all-black Airedale named the Dark Lord Elevator (Vator).

About the book – Dead End:

Nina Holmes won’t rest until she finds her mother’s killer—and proves that her father was wrongly convicted. And now that she’s left the CIA, she finally has time to pursue the case that shattered her childhood. But someone realizes that Nina’s digging into the past, and soon it’s her own life that’s in jeopardy. Deputy US marshal Wyatt Ames is just as determined to keep Nina safe as he is to keep investigating. But as he helps her with the case, they discover that this killer may be even more dangerous than anyone expected. And to capture him, Wyatt and Nina must be willing to do whatever it takes—even use themselves as bait.

by leaning on my faith in God to get me through the craziness

  • Like Shelia, I rely on my faith in God. I don’t know how non-believers deal with this world. For day to day – keeping a connection with my family – we all sit together in the evenings in our den. Sometimes we talk or even watch TV, but we have family time to decompress before we go to bed.

  • Maryann says:

I stay sane by having a consistent prayer time and also sing praises and listen to praise music.

  • Lisa says:

Hi all! Thanks again for having me visit, Shannon. It’s so true what you said about non-believers? I don’t know how they stay hopeful.
I listen to worship music, and sometimes have prayer time where I’ll play songs and sing to the Lord. It’s good for worship leaders to do that when no one else is listening! That quiet time with God is so KEY.

    Thanks ladies!

  • Mindy H says:

Haven’t read anything from this author before but sounds really fascinating. Prayer and worship through praise songs are my rock in this crazy life.

  • Jerusha Agen says:

Thanks for the giveaway! Sounds like an exciting story! I’m with you, Shannon–God is the only way I get through the hard times (or any time for that matter).

  • Jasmine A. says:

For one thing, I live in a small western town where people things so easy we are almost going in reverse. But, to keep sane I enjoy reading a lot, doing crafts, coloring, watching old movies where their problems are all solved in 90 minutes, and since I live in the mountains sometimes I’ll just go outside and try not to think of much of anything and just be.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this book! I love Lisa’s stories and hope to read this one as well.
