Laura V. Hilton – Real Life Romantic Interview – Part 2 of 3

Shannon here: Amish romance author, Laura V. Hilton shares another glimpse into her real life romance, plus a chance to win a copy of A Harvest of Hearts. Comment on any post dated Aug 29 – Sept 2 for a chance to win the drawing. Deadline: Sept 3, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Laura:

       1.   What’s the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?

My love gift is the act of service, so when he does an odd job around the house (for example, cutting up the tree that fell on the mailbox) it translates into something romantic.  The first time was fixing the deck outside my apartment. It wasn’t his job, because I rented the apartment, but he did it anyway.

      2.    What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?

He says being there for him, through thick and thin – supporting him as he pursues some different goals.

       3.    Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?

We went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas on our honeymoon.  But that wouldn’t be the most romantic.   I’d have to say either Munising Falls in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan or Niagara Falls in New York/Canada.   We were on the Canadian side when we saw it and it was during an ice storm.  We (and two of our children) skated out to the railing and held on, looking down at the falls.  Cold!  I wanted to go back and see it when it wasn’t during an ice storm, so we went back home that way and unfortunately, went back through in a blizzard.  I guess seeing the falls in good weather will have to happen another time!

       4.   Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?

No.   There is a small hole in the wall restaurant in Calico Rock, Arkansas we like to spend our anniversary at.

       5.    Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?

Steve picked out “Household of Faith” for our wedding, so that’s always been “our” song.

       6.    What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?

He is really good about bringing me flowers.   It started when he worked as a custodian at a mega church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.   He’d bring me really pretty flowers and I’d oooh and ahh over them and he said they were throwing them away after a funeral. (Laugh)  It got to the point where  he brought me flowers and I’d ask “Who died?”  But now, it’s more of a pick up a bouquet at Wal-Mart, something cheery.   I’m always thrilled, whatever the reason. 🙂

About the Book: A Harvest of Hearts Book 2 of the Amish of Seymour series, September 2011

Matthew Yoder volunteered to be part of the swap of Amish men from his Old Order Pennsylvania Amish Community, to the Amish community in Seymour, Missouri.  There is nothing for him in Pennsylvania, as the youngest of twelve children, and the lack of farmland around Lancaster County, he felt he could make a better future in another district. Shanna Stoltzfus has been raised Amish, and couldn’t wait for her rumspringa so she could pursue her education. She hated having to quit school in the 8th grade to stay home and learn everything that makes a home run smoothly. But now she has earned her GED and is taking college courses, but her family is begging her to come home; her little sisters miss her. And there’s something about newcomer, Matthew Yoder that draws her attention.  But is it enough to give up her dreams of education and join the Amish church?

Come back September 2 for an excerpt from Laura V. Hilton’s A Harvest of Hearts.

Enjoyed reading the interview, esp. the anecdote about the flowers. He-he!. And the book sounds interesting- I’ve never really read a book with an Amish backdrop! Can’t wait 🙂

  • Judy says:

I had my first real laugh of the day when I read where Steve got his flowers from to give to Laura! I’m like you Laura, I’m not particular about where my husband gets the flowers he gives me. I’m a very down to earth person and it is the thought that counts!

I’m sure A Harvest of Hearts will be another great read!

  • Beth Bell says:

Hey Laura! I can’t wait to read your books!

Your flower story reminded me of a story my MIL told of her boss. She was given flowers and went to throw them out at the end of the week when he (her boss) said “If your going to throw those out, I’ll take them home for my wife!” She was appalled lol…..

  • Marilynn Walton says:

What fun to have a hubby who brings flowers!

Love how you find romance in the simpliest things! Isn’t that what it is supposed to be all about!

Another great interview, I’m getting to know Laura better each time. The flower story is a classic. Laura, you should work that into a book.
