My fiancé and I had broken up. I was crushed but young. Life was before me. I began college, quit (then finished). I was a school teacher in love with teaching, and that alone absorbed a good bit of my time. I enjoyed ice skating, parties, and church along with my friends. Life was good.

And I accepted for a fact (at my young age! Lol) that I would never marry. There just wasn’t anyone around who attracted me.

Until . . .

Let me explain. I was also a Sunday School teacher to primary-aged children. One certain September day, our church was having some special services and in walked a young man with a girl on his arm. I learned afterward that the girl wanted to come to the services, but decided to back out at the last minute. The young man wouldn’t agree. So they came.

Afterwards, some of the children I taught in Sunday School approached me (the naughty little things!) and asked me if I liked the young man. Being the nice person I was (J) I said, yes, I liked him. They promptly left me and caught the young man and his girl outside getting ready to leave. What did they tell him? Nothing much except that I liked him. Which, of course, made his girl angry.

To make a l-o-n-g story short:

Ÿ         They broke up

Ÿ         He delivered a Christmas gift to my house for me (what did that tell me?)

Ÿ         We both were invited to attend a special function with his brother and his wife.

Ÿ         He became a Christian (I’d already decided not to go with him: I knew he didn’t love God as I did, and then . . .)

Ÿ         We began dating.

Ÿ         One and a half year later, we were married.

He’s been my best friend, my lover, companion, hero, encourager, and strength through these married years whether we’ve gone into hard trials or easy times. Our love now is deeper and stronger than ever.

Sometimes I see young people who are so anxious to get married. I want to say to them (and sometimes do), don’t hurry things along. God has his timing for our lives. He knows if we are to be with a certain person, he knows who that will be, and he knows the right time. God never makes a mistake.

    Hi Carole,

So enjoyed the story of the way you met your husband. I am single and like you I figure I will never be married, although I was asked once, but I just was not “in love” with him. I said no and I have never regretted it. I now take care of my elderly parents and don’t have time for dating. I know of friends and family members who have been unhappy in their marriages – so maybe it is simply overrated, but God still placed a longing in my heart for it – maybe my guy got lost enroute and is too stubborn to ask for directions! This book sounds great! Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy. May God continue to bless you and your husband, as well as your writing Carole!
