My hero and heroine (Haven and Callie) meet in what I consider my happy place, and I believe, a very romantic location: Canal Park in Duluth, Minnesota.

Canal Park is located on the southwestern shores of Lake Superior. Years ago, it had been a warehouse district, but since the 1980s, the area has undergone a stunning renovation honoring Duluth’s industrial past while beautifying the area for the present. Today there are unique shops, café’s, and hotels as well as the Great Lakes Aquarium, the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, the William A. Irvin floating ship museum, a four-mile Lakewalk, and so much more!

Making this area especially unique is the canal, flanked by two lighthouses, leading into the still-used industrial area, and the Aerial Lift Bridge (completed in 1930) crossing the canal. The bridge links Canal Park to Park Point which is home to the world’s largest freshwater sandbar and many homes, including Haven’s.

But the best part about this area is the amazing lake. The beach bordering Lake Superior is a mix of massive boulders and lake-smoothed stones. Visitors are frequently found climbing over the boulders, skipping rocks, or searching for agates. The sunrises over Lake Superior are breathtaking.

It was during one of those sunrises that Haven and Callie meet.

Callie had gone to the shores along Canal Park to view the sunrise as that’s where she feels a strong connection with God. Haven was there to capture the beauty of the sunrise with his camera, and he wound up capturing Callie as well.

Only, she hates having her picture taken.

And that’s how their romance story begins…

About the book – Capturing Beauty:

He’s a nature photographer returning to make amends. She’s a camera-shy naturalist seeking privacy. Their love for a boy brings them together, but the camera could drive them apart.

Photographer Haven Carlysle is a changed man. Six years earlier, he had run from his tragedy-filled life in Duluth. Now he’s back in town to capture the North Shore’s beauty … and to recapture the love of his son. But that means making amends with his ex-girlfriend too. When camera-leery Callie Beaumont steps in to bridge the relationship between Haven and his former family, he’s wary, but she’s his only hope.

Callie Beaumont is surrounded by beauty. Her parents are local news celebrities. Her sister is a model. And Callie is … Ordinary. All her life, Callie has longed to work outdoors soaking up God-breathed beauty, and the opportunity is finally on the horizon. But being the liaison between the handsome photographer and his son has thrown her dreams, and her heart, into chaos.

Can Haven capture her heart when she won’t let him capture her image? And will his poor choices cost Callie her dream job and him the love of his son?
